When it helps
- You've picked a name but aren't ready to form yet.
- You're registering a foreign company and need time for your home-state certificate.
- You've announced a brand or are waiting on financing.
When you don't need it
If you're ready to file now, just file your articles. They actually create the company, and they hold the name too.
What's included
- Availability check.
- Reservation prepared and filed.
- The record in your portal.
A reservation lasts a limited time set by Ohio law, and renewing it costs the state's $25 fee. A reservation isn't a trademark, so check for that separately if the brand matters.
